So what's to be done about the mining aspect? Easy, give it the same mining stats as the pickaxe, not this trade-off of questionable balance. Let's face it, we want tools, tools of use, not combat, so the question of drill vs pickaxe in DPS is moot here. The real reason why drills have fallen into disuse is because they are inferior to pickaxes in mining, and to a lesser extent, in combat. And besides, more to the point, if you're fighting enemies with tools, you're doing something wrong. The only situation where pickaxe has the advantage over drills(in terms of animation/swing) is when you are mining in, or close to, glowing mushroom biomes where they shoot those spores.Īs for the other enemies, having no knockback is actually a potential increase in DPS. Maybe it's a misunderstanding on my side?Ĭlick to expand.I did. It hurts my brain.īut the other reasons take into account the fact that until this point, each tier of equipment was allotted one mining tool (despite visual differences), and introducing this new and potentially unbalanced sort of tool could topple any balance we ever knew. The main reason: I don't like having to make hard choices. Now, you punks are trying to make drills and pickaxes have significant differences, and I don't like it. Perhaps he just didn't want to upset the people who actually liked the drills. Now, thinking about it, Red could have simply replaced the drills with pickaxes entirely, but he left them in instead. Perhaps he himself was not fond of the drills? So, fast-forward to 1.2, and Red finally adds in the pickaxes to please the whiners and shut them up for a few seconds.īut, beyond adding in the new alternate ore drills, Red didn't even add in any new drill type tools for any of several subsequent updates!Ĭlearly he had some intent with this. They were new and exciting and fun, and represented a higher level of technology in the Terrarium.īut some people ed and moaned like always: "Red, these new drills are so noisy!" "Red, I liked pickaxes better!" "Red, waaaahhh!!" Now, the molten pickaxe was still important, but all of the new, more powerful mining tools were drills! What a twist! Aha! Commies. Then, the great Redigit said "Let there be a larger conflict involving the corruption!" And so hardmode was born. The only mining tools were pickaxes, and the strongest one was Molten. Long ago in a land that was always free of government regulation: Okay, since it appears there may be some sort of misinformation or miscommunication here, let's take a little history course.
